Cognition Method Release Date

Team Cognition set a public date: 1 September 2026, on Steam, for Windows PC. IGN repeated that date in its 16 July 2026 announcement. The Steam news post from 13 July 2026 is the studio’s own wording: they were ready to ship a handcrafted five-to-nine-hour story without a publisher. This page is the bookmark for that claim. It is not a review, and it does not speak as if the campaign has already shipped.

Platforms

• Yes: Windows PC via Steam (app 1636620)
• Store flags at time of writing: Windows true, Mac false, Linux false on the platforms block, even though a SteamOS-flavored minimum spec appears in a Linux requirements field. Treat Linux/Steam Deck as unverified. A 2024 show demo ran on a Deck; that is not a badge.
• Consoles: Not listed as a launch SKU on the Steam page. Older interviews said “potentially console.” Do not pre-order a phantom PlayStation build.
• Roblox: Not a Roblox game. Different store, different studio.

Two-player mode is not on the table. Single-player only. Family Sharing is listed, which is how a household shares a library — not how you play a well together.

Price and edition noise

While the title was still “coming soon,” Steam did not publish a final consumer price in the API dump this wiki used. There is no deluxe edition to decode, no battle pass, no founder’s pack. When a number appears, it will go here. Until then, the free demos are the try-before-you-buy: Initiation and the later demo. Getting started links both.

Wishlist, Steam Cloud, day-one hygiene

Wishlist from the official app page (also mirrored on Links). Steam Cloud is flagged, so settings and progress should travel between PCs after launch. Achievements are flagged. Photo mode already had a community event in May 2026. None of that is a launch-day patch note; it is a store promise.

Hardware is the boring gate. Minimum: Windows 10 64-bit, i5-4460 / Ryzen 3 1200, 8 GB RAM, GTX 1060 / RX 580, 20 GB. Full table on system requirements. If you only played Initiation on a 2014 laptop, do not assume the 2026 lighting budget is the same.

If the date moves

Independent teams slip. If Steam’s coming-soon widget changes, this page should change the same day, and the rest of the wiki should keep saying “upcoming” until the build is actually buyable. Do not trust a random screenshot of a countdown. Trust the Steam news hub and the store header.

What to do in the days before unlock

1. Wishlist.
2. Finish or replay a demo with gravity puzzles in mind.
3. Map your binds on controls.
4. Confirm GPU drivers and disk space.
5. Decide whether you want photo-mode credits more than a blind story — photo mode.

Then wait. The Artifact is not a live-service event. It will still be there at dinner time. If you want a last practice well before the unlock, boot Initiation once more and walk a wall on purpose. That half hour is a better countdown than a store widget. Keep getting started and this page together so the date and the first-hour plan do not live in separate mental folders.
